Dave Jones has been given more time by Cardiff City.

Ridsdale and the Cardiff City board gave manager Jones a vote of confidence on Tuesday, as pressure grew on them to back him or sack him.

And now after backing Jones, Ridsdale says he has turn things around quickly.

"If we don't win or take good points from the next two games then the pressure would be that we would have to change," he told the South Wales Echo.

He added: "It's been made absolutely clear the team have to perform or changes will be made at the top.

"I'm not saying if it will be one, two or 10 matches when we would have to make a decision.

"But I want to see an immediate upturn in fortunes."

There had been speculation that the Bluebirds would sack Jones, but a statement on their official website said they are sticking by him.

"At a meeting, the board unanimously agreed to back Dave in his quest to improve on recent results," said Ridsdale.

City are enduring a torrid season and are 20th in the Championship table.

Chairman Ridsdale did warn, though, that results at Ninian Park will have to improve if Jones is to keep his job.

The Bluebirds have won just 11 of their last 49 games.

"All football managers are ultimately judged by results and results over the last 12 months have not been acceptable, Dave is as aware of this as anyone," said Ridsdale.

He added: "We sincerely hope that this announcement will end the current speculation and that all true Cardiff City Football supporters will continue to give Dave and his players their full support."

Jones joined Cardiff City in May 2005 replacing Lennie Lawrence, who then took up an advisory role at Ninian Park.

Jones, 48, had been out of work since he was sacked by Wolves the previous November after a poor run of form in the Championship.

In his first season at the club, he led Cardiff to 11th in the Championship table as striker Cameron Jerome lead the scoring charts for that campaign.

Jerome was sold in the summer to Birmingham much to the fury of Cardiff City's supporters, but despite his departure the Bluebirds made a stunning start to the 2006/07 season.

With new signing Michael Chopra in prolific form, they led the Championship table for the early part of the season.

As the Bluebirds enjoyed success, Jones was tipped with a move to several clubs, but he stayed loyal signing a new contract until 2008.

But Chopra's goals dried up and City slipped down the table, and they eventually finished 13th in the table.

Like the previous season, Cardiff decided to sell their top-scorer as Chopra joined Premiership newcomers Sunderland �5m.

And despite the summer acquisitions of Robbie Fowler and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, the Bluebirds have made a woeful start to this season.
