Cardiff manager Dave Jones sees a bright future ahead

Jones will sit down with new chairman Peter Ridsdale, who took over from Sam Hammam last week, to discuss if he will also have transfer money to spend.

"All the things I didn't know will be answered in a few days," Jones said.

"But my job hasn't changed. Last year when we didn't have money it didn't mean we stopped looking at players."

The new investment backing Ridsdale is what he says are "two or three" London-based financial institutions that specialise in hedge funds.

While full financial details are still to emerge, it is expected to reduce some of Cardiff City's �24m debt - perhaps by as much as �9m - while also providing funds to strengthen the playing squad in the January transfer window.

The club's first team and youth Academy players train at the Cardiff University playing fields in Treforest, but these facilities can be limited by the weather.

Jones is eager to press ahead with securing modern private training facilities and expects good news soon.

"Peter had meetings the other day and once all that is signed and sealed that will be announced and hopefully we'll be using it in June or July," Jones added.

Hammam's reign has seen plans for a new stadium for the club advanced and the team sit proudly at the top of the Championship.

Jones is grateful to Hammam for bringing him to the club and for his past efforts, but the former Wolves and Southampton boss is looking to the future.

"I think the decision Sam has made is the right one and he admits that," Jones said.

"It's the saddest saying there is: 'the king is dead, long live the king' and everybody does move on, but Cardiff City can go forward now.

"The good thing is that it's not like someone coming in from outside who doesn't know the football club.

"Peter's taken over so that keeps the continuity going and we can all deliver what everyone wants.

"I got on well with Sam, he brought me here with Peter, he was a football person and the things that he's done have been fantastic for the club.

"Along the way Sam will say that he made mistakes, but everyone does that anyway."
