Cardiff manager Dave Jones had told striker Andy Campbell, keeper Martyn Margetson and winger Richard Langley they have no future at the club. Jones says he hopes to offload the unwanted trio in order to raise much needed funds to buy a new striker.
Said Jones: "That's just the way the business runs. When you've got players you know you're not going to use, of course you try to get them out.
"While they are still here it makes it difficult to bring others in."
Despite scoring the goal that took Cardiff to the Championship via the play-offs, Campbell has failed to live up to his reputation since arriving for 950,000 from Middlesbrough in 2002.
Jamaica international Langley was a regular under previous boss Lennie Lawrence last year, but has fallen down the pecking order with the arrival of three new midfielders.
Margetson has played second fiddle for the majority of his time with the Bluebirds, and now finds himself behind Tony Warner and Neil Alexander.
Jones says he has made finding a proven goalscorer his main priority before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
The Bluebirds drew a blank in their opening Championship match against Ipswich on Saturday with youngster Cameron Jerome and converted winger Paul Parry leading the line.
Alan Lee replaced Parry in the second half and only a superb reflex save from Ipswich goalkeeper Lewis Price denied the Irishman from ending his seven-month goal drought.
But Cardiff have found goals hard to come by since the prolific Robert Earnshaw was sold to West Brom a year ago, and Jones knows he is short on fire-power.
"We've only got three strikers so we are looking to bolster that department to help the people that are here," Jones told BBC Wales Sport.
"We're looking but at the moment we're finding it difficult, like a lot of clubs."
Michal Kolomaznik's representatives have denied the Czech striker is about to join Cardiff from German outfit 1860 Munich. An official for Rogon Sports Management, who look after the 29-year-old's interests, said of the supposed 200,000 deal: "It's completely untrue.
"Michal is an 1860 Munich player and he won't be joining Cardiff and neither we, nor him, have had contact with Cardiff."
Kolomaznik played Czech league football before moving to Germany in 2003.
