Crow keen to keep Cambridge place

Cambridge United striker Danny Crow says he is closing in on full fitness and is hoping for more minutes on the pitch over the coming weeks.

The 22-year-old has missed a lot of football over the past 18 months after being frozen out at Peterborough.

Crow claimed his first brace for the U's in the recent 4-1 win over Woking.

Crow told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Woking was the best I've felt for some time, every time I got the ball I thought I was going to score."

The former Norwich academy product joined the U's in September after his contract at Peterborough was cancelled.

Crow scored 17 times for Posh in the 2005-2006 season, but fell out of favour upon manager Darren Ferguson's arrival at London Road.

With Scott Rendell having re-joined the U's on loan, there is increased competition for places up front.

Given the money which has been invested in Rendell, Crow accepts he is probably boss Gary Brabin's first choice forward.

"The money plays a major factor in it, of course it does, but he's also completely different to the other forwards here," he said.

"He's tall, wins a lot in the air and is our only target man when we need to mix our game up."
