Cambridge United striker Lee Boylan is hoping to return to the starting line-up for the weekend trip to Blue Square Premier strugglers Droylsden.
Boylan started Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Kidderminster on the bench due to a hamstring problem.
"I've got a trapped nerve in my back that is causing discomfort in my hamstring," the 29-year-old told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
"I got through training OK so I hope to be fit to play on Saturday."
Boylan has scored seven of the the U's last eight goals and many supporters were surprised to see him miss out on a start against Kidderminster.
Boylan said he was put on the bench as a "precautionary measure".
He added: "I didn't want to play and tear my hamstring then have to miss the next four or five matches.
"I'm pushing for a starting place on Saturday and hopefully I'll be back to normal."
The U's have taken just one point from their last four matches and Boylan admits that the team are currently suffering a "glitch".
"We are working hard and trying to put it right but things aren't going for us at the moment," he admitted.
"Earlier in the season everything was going for us but now we're not always getting the rub of the green."
But Boylan insisted: "We're all confident we can put things right on Saturday and pick ourselves up from then."
