Newman sacked as Cambridge boss | Newman took charge at Cambridge in May 2005 | Cambridge United have sacked manager Rob Newman following their 3-1 home defeat by Exeter on Friday which left them second-bottom of the Conference. Newman's assistant Tony Spearing has also left the Abbey Stadium and U's chairman Lee Power will take charge for next week's game against Forest Green. Power said: "It gives me no pleasure. They are both friends of mine but football is football." Newman had been in charge of Cambridge since May 2005.
