Marriott was keen to sign for a northern club |
Wales international goalkeeper Andy Marriott has left Colchester to join Bury on an 18-month contract. The former Wrexham keeper, 34, joined the U's a fortnight ago on a short-term deal following Aidan Davison's injury.
"Andy only had two weeks to go with us, and we couldn't stand in his way," U's boss Phil Parkinson told BBC Essex.
"His family live up north and he wanted to get a longer contract sorted out somewhere. Aidan is back in training so we should have him back soon."
Meanwhile, Colchester hope to agree a contract extension with midfielder Ben Bowditch before the end of the week.
The former Tottenham trainee's initial three-month deal at Layer Road was due to expire this week.
