Gudjonsson has not played for Burnley since January
Burnley have suspended Joey Gudjonsson for two weeks pending an investigation into comments he allegedly made about manager Brian Laws.
On Friday, the midfielder was quoted on an Icelandic website questioning the team spirit under Laws.
Gudjonsson, 29, whose contract expires in the summer, attended a disciplinary hearing at the club on Monday.
The Clarets are in the Premier League relegation zone but Laws has adamantly denied the claims made by the player.
This is the second time in recent weeks that Burnley have disciplined one of their players.
Midfielder Kevin McDonald was fined after he left Turf Moor without permission after he was substituted at half-time of the 6-1 mauling by Manchester City on 3 April.
The Clarets bounced back from that defeat to clinch a first away win of the season with a 4-1 victory at fellow strugglers Hull on Saturday, a match that Gudjonsson's comments on Friday had threatened to overshadow.
The outspoken midfielder, who has featured only 14 times for Burnley this season, claimed that "all the players have lost faith in him [Laws], the performances say all that has to be said", allegations that the Burnley boss was quick to dismiss on Saturday.
"I'm an easy target. I'm in the bottom three, nothing is going well, the results aren't great, apparently I'm falling out with players. It's an absolute joke," stated Laws.
"It's come from a player who finds himself out the door, in terms of no contract being offered to him for next season. It's a cheap shot.
"We'll deal with Joey Gudjonsson's comments professionally - unlike the player."
Gudjonsson has been out of favour with Laws since his last appearance, in a 1-0 FA Cup fourth-round defeat at Championship club Reading in January.
Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Laws has endured a tough time at Turf Moor since taking up the reigns in January following Owen Coyle's departure to manage Bolton.
He has won only two of his 15 matches in charge of the side, who are currently 18th in the table, four points behind 17th-placed Wigan and having played a game more.
