Burnley manger Owen Coyle has added defender David Edgar to his squad after his contract with Newcastle expired.
The 22-year-old Canadian defender has signed a four-year deal with the newly promoted Premier League side.
His age means that Burnley will have to agree a fee to compensate the Magpies for the switch.
He becomes the third player to arrive at Turf Moor this summer after the arrivals of striker Steven Fletcher and defender Tyrone Mears on Tuesday.
Although he was signed as a centre-back, Edgar was mainly deployed on the right side of defence in his 11 league appearances last season.
He was sent off in the last minute of the 1-0 final-day defeat by Aston Villa that consigned Alan Shearer's side to the Championship.
