Burnley have confirmed that goalkeeper Danny Coyne will be out for the rest of the season. Coyne, 32, had a scan on his knee on Monday to discover he had a cruciate knee ligament injury which he sustained in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Brighton.
"Obviously it's what we feared," boss Steve Cotterill told the club website.
"Because of the nature of the injury, he'll have to wear brace for a month before they can operate. It will take a good 12 months before it's healed."
Coyne Coyne will miss Wales' October games with Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan.
Young Ipswich goalkeeper Lewis Price could win his first Wales cap as Coyne's replacement for those two World Cup qualifiers less than a fortnight away.
Coyne's injury is a massive blow for Burnley, who have also lost defender Wayne Thomas to a similar problem.
"We're obviously down about it, as it's the second long-term injury this season to two very important players," added Cotterill.
"The earliest possible time we will be looking to bring both of them back is at the start of next season, providing the healing goes to plan."
