Ivan Sproule strikes 'emotional' goal for Bristol City
Sproule's opening goal set Bristol City on their way to a 3-1 win at Leicester
Bristol City midfielder Ivan Sproule says his solo strike against Leicester was for the club after they helped him through a difficult few weeks.
Sproule and his wife lost their baby, who was still born, a month ago and he has only just returned to the side.
"It was nice to give something back to the club because they've stood right beside me and my wife," the 28-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol.
"It's been hard to pick myself up and slowly but surely I'm getting there."
He added: "I guess there was a bit more emotion in that and it was nice to put a smile on my face and their faces as well."
The Northern Ireland international is hoping his latest performance will mean an extended run in the team.
"I have been frustrated but I haven't thrown my rattle out of the pram. I've just knuckled down and got on with it because I enjoy my time here at Bristol," he said.
"I feel this is the right place for me. I know I can't let my standards drop if I want to stay in the team and produce performances like I did against Leicester."
It was the first win in six games for Gary Johnson's side and the City manager has come in for some criticism from fans for his team selection and tactics.
"Everybody thinks they can manage the team and I'm sure if you had it for two or three weeks you might find out it's a bit more difficult than you imagined," added Sproule.
"But the Gaffer's doing a fine job and we believe in what he's doing and he's a much cleverer man than me or you."
