Skuse plays down injury worries

Cole Skuse has played down fears he could be sidelined from Bristol City's coming games after picking up an injury in the 2-1 victory at Norwich City.

Skuse, 22, scored the opening goal - his first in almost three years - but was substituted on 31 minutes after sustaining a back injury.

"I've struggled a little bit with back problems but hopefully I'll be back in contention for Southampton on Saturday.

"It's not as bad as we first thought," the midfielder told BBC Radio Bristol.

Skuse has become a regular in the City side during their run of six wins in seven games.

The Robins' good form has seen last season's play-off finalists move up the table to within three points of the play-off places and Skuse said he is loathed to miss out on the action.

"Christmas time and Boxing Day people were saying we had second-season syndrome and were struggling and that we were in for a dogfight," he added.

"But we've got our own belief, our own ways of playing, our own ways of thinking and it's working for us and we're flying at the minute.

"There are a lot of points to play for and City could be on their way again.

"Last season was an outstanding season for us. We were an unknown side and a lot of people didn't know how to handle us.

"We've managed to turn the little bad run we had around and we're just outside the play-offs.

"If we achieve what we did last season, that little bit more, that would be absolutely fantastic."
