Bristol City goalkeeper Chris Weale has agreed to sign a new one-year deal with the club.

The 26-year-old's current contract expires this summer and he spent last season as understudy to Adriano Basso.

But City boss Gary Johnson said: "He's willing to stay here and fight for a first-team place next season.

"If he's not playing regularly then there's always the option to allow him to go out on loan. I didn't want to lose him and Wealey's happy."

Another goalkeeper, Stephen Henderson, is also set to extend his stay at Ashton Gate for another year.

Henderson made just one first-team appearance last season after joining from Aston Villa but spent successful loan spells with York City.
