Bristol City legend Tom Ritchie is backing Lee Trundle to come good in Saturday's Championship play-off final.

Ritchie was City's top scorer when they were promoted to Division One in 1976.

"He's taken a bit of time to settle but he's coming right at the right time and it would be lovely to see him hit the winner," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"Moving clubs isn't that simple and you need a bit of luck as well. He's turned the corner and hopefully he can do himself proud."

Trundle struggled for form after his million-pound move from Swansea City last summer.

But he has now scored three times in his last seven games for the Robins, including the equaliser in the second leg of the play-off semi-final at home to Crystal Palace.

The 31-year-old striker told BBC Points West that he hoped Saturday's game against Hull would prove to be one of the highlights of his career.

"As a young lad, when you want to be a footballer you want to play in the biggest games possible.

"To be 90 minutes away from playing in the Premier League, it doesn't get much bigger than that.

"It's a game that I can't wait to come round - a big occasion, a big crowd."

Trundle said he was surprised to hear that replica shirts bearing his name were the top selling kit in the Bristol City club shop.

"That might have something to do with the other night, but it's nice that the fans feel like that - it's nice to feel wanted and I think that helps in the way that I play my football."
