Brighton boss Gus Poyet has hailed the debut performance of Romain Vincelot.
The former Dagenham & Redbridge man, primarily a defender, impressed on his debut in the 1-0 Carling Cup first round win win over Gillingham.
Poyet told BBC Sussex: "There are plenty of things I like about him. He knows when he needs to be strong and when to be tactically aware.
"We didn't cross with enough quality but you will see him score goals from midfield," he added.
"I know he's not here as a midfielder but when you have this situation we have with two wide players you need someone in the box."
