 | McGHEE'S VIEW |
Brighton manager Mark McGhee paid tribute to his young side after they secured Championship safety despite "difficult circumstances". Their season has been often overshadowed by their proposed development of a new stadium at Falmer.
But following a 1-1 draw with Ipswich, McGhee told BBC Sport: "This is a club who can compete at this level even under the most difficult circumstances.
"We have stayed in this division and it's fantastic."
The Seagulls had looked in danger of the drop but put together a series of telling results to stay up by a solitary point.
McGhee added: "We had 11 games left but went five games unbeaten and clung onto our position in the division. And that's very important for the development of the players.
"The young players we have have proven they are good enough for this division."
Brighton's proposed move to a new stadium has "cost millions" according to McGhee.
"Despite that, we are still here in this championship and still surviving. It's a great little club," he said. "It can be a great slightly bigger club if we can have the right stadium."
