Bennett was called up to the Republic of Ireland squad in 2007

Reading central defender Alan Bennett has had his loan at Brentford extended until 29 January.

The 27-year-old has made 35 appearances for the club, scoring one goal in two previous loan spells at Griffin Park.

Bennett, who has also played for the Republic of Ireland, started his second loan spell at the start of August.

And, following a man-of-the-match performance against Rotherham United in that period, it was extended for a further five months on 31 August.

In May last year he was called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their two-game tour to the United States and played the full 90 minutes against Ecuador, helping them a 1-1 draw.
