Brentford manager Martin Allen has revealed that defender Sam Sodje turned down a deadline-day move to Championship side Southampton. Allen told Brentford's website that the two clubs had agreed a fee on Tuesday evening, but the 26-year-old Sodje elected to stay with the Bees.
The Bees boss said: "To say that I am happy is an understatement."
Nigerian-born Sodje joined Brentford in May 2004 from non-league Margate, having previously played for Stevenage.
Meanwhile, a statement to the Stock Exchange by Saints' parent company Southampton Leisure Holdings plc confirms that they have not received a takeover approach from a consortium headed by Andrew Strode-Gibbons, "or any other party".
