| Tuesday, 8 May, 2001, 15:37 GMT 16:37 UK Coppell named new Brentford boss ![]() Coppell turned down chance of a job at Watford Steve Coppell has agreed to become the manager of Brentford after turning down the chance to join Gianluca Vialli at Watford. Brentford chairman Ron Noades said he was delighted to have the former Crystal Palace boss on board following Ray Lewington's decision to go to the Hornets.
The appointment also sees the re-establishment of the working relationship the pair shared while Noades was chairman of Palace. Noades said: "Steve comes to Brentford with a wealth of experience at a high level. "His professionalism and integrity should be invaluable to both Brentford Football Club players and supporters alike. "I think we are extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity of acquiring Steve's services. "And it shows the club's commitment to go forward with our long term plans for a new stadium development and the establishment of Brentford as a viable business and a serious contender in the Football League." | Other top Brentford stories: Links to more Brentford stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||
