Speculation is now mounting that Bees owner Ron Noades is considering selling the Second Division club.

But Noades insists the transfers were pushed through to help the club balance its books.

Leading scorer Scott and midfielder Quinn have gone to the Manor Ground for a combined initial fee of �150,000.

Scott, who has scored 15 goals this term, cost �75,000 when he joined three years ago from Sheffield United.

Quinn, a former Republic of Ireland under 21, and B international, started his career as a trainee at Crystal Palace and has impressed at Griffin Park.

Funding

Noades issued a statement about the sale of the players after he returned from Spain.

He said: "I have never made any secret of the fact that I would only fund the club for a period of two years.

"The transfer of Hermann Hreidarsson obviously gave us the funding for a third year.

"We are now in a position that we have to get the club to a break-even point as soon as we can.

"That doesn't mean our players will be sold wholesale, we have to introduce a wage cap and look towards having a squad of players that fits in that framework."

Noades admitted that the decision to sell Quinn and Scott would not go down well with some supporters, but he insisted the deal was sound for sound business reasons.

He added: "The directors and I remain optimistic about the club's future, but like all businesses decisions are sometimes made that others disagree with."

Scott told Brentford's official website that he was sad to part company with the Bees, but could see the club's point of view.

"Ron Noades pays our money and if he lets me know that I am no longer needed then I must realise that I haven't got a long term future at Brentford.

"With this in mind and the fact that I have a family to consider and support I felt that it would have been foolish not to go to speak to Oxford who obviously wanted me and are clearly ambitious."
