Brechin boss Jim Weir praises players' commitment

Jim Weir
Weir was pleased his side earned a replay against St Johnstone

Brechin manager was delighted to see his players hold St Johnstone to a 2-2 draw in their Scottish Cup quarter-final tie at Glebe Park.

The Angus side took, then lost their lead in a wet encounter with the Scottish Premier League side.

"The conditions were making it difficult, and both sets of players were finding it hard," said Weir.

"But the never-die attitude was there to see and we got an excellent finish from Rory McAllister to earn a replay."

McAllister opened the scoring for the hosts with a re-taken penalty just before the interval, then Chris Millar volleyed Saints level before Danny Invincibile headed his first goal for the Perth club to give them the lead.

Hopefully both sets of supporters get the same level of commitment and the same performance in the next game

However, McAllister fired home his second of the day late in the match to ensure the sides will meet again at McDiarmid Park on Tuesday 22 March.

Weir says he told his players they were on the verge of a special achievement, but was pleased that the fans were given an entertaining afternoon in difficult conditions.

"I tried to say to the players they were 90 minutes away from something special," said Weir.

"To be fair to St Johnstone, they made a positive change at half-time and I was disappointed to see us fall behind.

"At the end of the day, both sides tried to play football in conditions that weren't easy.

"I was delighted for both sets of fans, especially Brechin - they deserved that. We should both be happy that we're still in the cup.

"We're delighted that we still have a chance, because I know St Johnstone would never treat us lightly and we can now go at it again.

"Hopefully both sets of supporters get the same level of commitment and the same performance in the next game."
