Richmond hails new boss
Dean Windass
Dean Windass celebrates scoring against Chelsea
Bradford chairman Geoffrey Richmond has paid tribute to new manager Chris Hutchings following the Bantams defeat of Chelsea's star-studded side.

Hutchings replaced Paul Jewell earlier in the summer, stepping up from assistant manager, but it was an appointement that surprised many.

But after their 2-0 defeat of Chelsea, Richmond believe Hutchings is now proving his critics wrong.

"He's had to put up with remarks of Chris who?," said Richmond. "Not only that, the bookies have been tipping him as the favourite in the Premiership to lose his job.

I am delighted for him. It was a great night and a great scalp. But the most important thing is that it's our first win.

"People should remember we have a good record with rookie managers here. Chris is doing his talking on the pitch and last night was his night.

"I am delighted for him. It was a great night and a great scalp. But the most important thing is that it's our first win.

"I must give credit to Chelsea, however. They were very generous in defeat."

Nevertheless, the result was a blow to Chelsea's title ambitions as the Bantams picked up their first three points of the new campaign.

But Richmond is urging Bradford's supporters not to get too carried away going into the match against Leicester at Valley Parade on Saturday.

Richmond warns against over-excitement

"I am aware that by beating Chelsea we have raised the expectancy levels among the fans," he said.

"It was an enjoyable victory, but I recall Watford starting well last season and getting relegated.

"We are not going to get carried away just because we have beaten Chelsea.

"As we all know the season is a marathon not a sprint.

"It will be tough against Leicester as they have been a top side for a number of years and have strengthened their squad considerably in the summer."
