Anderton had not played for six months after leaving Wolves |
Ex-England star Darren Anderton was pleased to mark his Bournemouth debut with a superb 35-yard free-kick in the 1-1 draw against Scunthorpe. "I remember getting one against Leeds in the FA Cup that was better, but for a debut goal it's not bad," he said.
"Neil Young told me 'Have a whack' - so I did, and once it got past the wall, I thought it was in.
"Training's one thing, playing games is another, so the sooner I get four or five games under my belt the better."
Having lined up for the Cherries in a deep-lying playmaker role, he added: "I've always wanted to play central midfield.
"There was a time at Tottenham when Gerry Francis moved me inside, but I always played wide for England.
"And at 34 I'm not going to be running past anyone down the wing any more.
"But they're a good set of lads here, and the quality was good as there were two teams out there trying to play football."
