Fletcher hopes to agree new deal
Steve Fletcher
Fletcher has now been with Bournemouth for 14 seasons
Bournemouth club captain Steve Fletcher has said he hopes to agree a new deal at Dean Court in the next week.

"I'll have to see what the manager Sean O'Driscoll and I come up with," the 33-year-old striker told BBC Sport.

"But it won't be eight or nine weeks off for me - I've got to keep myself ticking over during the summer.

"People like me and Eddie Howe, who struggle on hard ground with our knee problems, we might have to keep going in the gym two or three days a week."

The long-serving Fletcher is one of several Cherries players who are out of contract this summer.

He added: "Because I've had to have a couple of exploratory knee operations in the last two seasons, I don't want to keep doing that every pre-season because then my season doesn't properly start until September.

"I've got to keep myself right, so if that means working over the summer, and doing what I'm doing now for the rest of my career, I've spoken to Sean and he's fine about it.

"But I don't want to leave after 14 years here, not a chance."
