Bolton captain Kevin Davies has signed a one-year contract extension with the club which runs until the end of the 2011/12 season.

The 32-year-old striker scored 12 goals last term, helping the Lancashire club finish 13th in the Premier League.

"He has been absolutely 100% since I arrived," said Bolton manager Gary Megson. "He is a great leader on and off the pitch."

Davies joined Bolton on a free transfer from Southampton in 2003.

He began his career at Chesterfield before moving to the Saints in 1997.

Davies joined Blackburn for £7.5 million in 1998 but returned to Southampton a year later after failing to establish himself with Rovers.

In six seasons at Bolton, Davies has become fundamental to the club's style of play, often playing as a lone striker, using his muscular frame to bring other players into the game and chipping in with crucial goals.

His impressive displays last season even saw him linked with a call-up to Fabio Capello's England squad.

Davies' contract extension comes a week after defender Gary Cahill signed a new three-year deal.

Bolton lost 1-0 at home to Sunderland on the opening day of the season.
