Alonso made his Sociedad debut in 2001

The 27-year-old midfielder could take the place of Idan Tal, who is set to hold talks with Beitar Jerusalem.

Alonso's agent Inaki Ibanez said: "Bolton have shown an interest in Mikel but no agreement has been reached yet between the clubs.

"I am trying to negotiate what possibilities there are for Mikel."

Ibanez added: "Mikel is really enthusiastic about the possibility of playing next season in the Premier League.

"It would allow him to be closer to his brother Xabi and be able to play in the Uefa Cup."

Alonso, a Basque, has spent most of his career at Sociedad, though he had a brief spell on loan at Numancia.
