Bolton dismiss new Allardyce link
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce
Allardyce was overlooked for the England job earlier this year
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has again denied claims that Sam Allardyce will be leaving the Reebok Stadium to take over at Sunderland.

Reports earlier this summer suggested the struggling Black Cats were targeting the Bolton boss and the rumours resurfaced on Saturday.

But Gartside told Radio Manchester: "Sam will not be going to Sunderland.

"I did not even bother ringing him about the speculation. It is just wasting his time and my time."

Niall Quinn is currently combining his role as chairman of Sunderland with the managerial position but his side have suffered an awful start to the season, losing their first four games.

He has insisted he is prepared to step down - if the club can find the right person to take over.

"If someone comes along to take the club forward, I promise there is no pride here and I'll walk," he said after Sunderland's latest defeat, which was a 3-1 loss at Southend.

"But whoever comes in will have a real job turning this around."
