Speed has targeted a future in coaching or management |
Bolton midfielder Gary Speed has taken a part-time role at Wrexham's academy. The ex-Wales captain, 36, has expressed an interest in a managerial future and - having completed his Uefa A coaching licence - this is a first step.
"I'm not sure if I want to be a coach or a manager, so I've agreed to this part-time role to dip my toe in the water," Speed told the Wales on Sunday.
"It's only one night a week and I live in Chester so it's not far for me to travel, I've got some ideas to try."
Speed is Wales' most-capped outfield player, his 85th and final appearance coming against Poland in October 2004.
He also holds the record for most Premiership appearances, and plans to keep playing for at least the year that is left on his Bolton contract.
His brief at Wrexham is to nurture the club's Under-15 squad.
