Fadiga's career has been hampered by his heart problems |
Bolton manager Sam Allardyce will decide next week whether Khalilou Fadiga has a future with Wanderers. The midfielder, 29, has not played since having a defibrillator fitted after a heart scare before October's Carling Cup tie with Tottenham.
Fadiga has now resumed training and Allardyce said: "Everyone is hoping he is going to come through.
"We will make a decision for everyone next week. Hopefully that will be a positive one."
Last week a heart specialist warned Fadiga his life may be in danger if he plays again.
Professor Marcello Chimienti, who diagnosed his condition at Inter Milan in 2003, says one fall or kick could kill the Senegalese player instantly.
"Fadiga should live his life quietly and give up playing football," he said.
"It is extremely dangerous for him to want to continue playing while wearing a defibrillator.
"It is a device that can stop just as easily as it can work.
"The machine is so delicate, if it gets hit by a ball during a match or if the player falls on to his shoulder or takes a kick from an opponent, it will stop functioning - and this will lead to his instant death."
Fadiga underwent heart surgery in May - before Inter terminated his contract in the summer.
He failed to make a starting appearance for the Italians and has yet to start a game for Bolton - he was due to be on the bench against Spurs before he fainted.
Chimienti added: "He should not be allowed to play football and even having another operation will not alter his problem one bit."
