Bolton set for Okocha talks
Jay-Jay Okocha in action in the Carling Cup final
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside is set to meet captain Jay-Jay Okocha within 24 hours to discuss a new contract.

The Nigerian midfielder's current deal ends in the summer but he had hinted that he was no nearer to clinching an extended stay at the club.

But Gartside spoke briefly to Okocha after the Carling Cup final defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Gartside told the club website: "I am hoping to speak to him again to sort things out in the next 24 hours.

"We are not a million miles away and I am confident that we can do something."

Okocha revealed on Monday that the club's failure to win in Cardiff on Sunday and qualify for Europe would have no bearing on his decision over whether to stay.

"I have been here for two years and not played in any European competition and been happy," Okocha told BBC GMR.

"It was my aim to take Bolton into Europe. Unfortunately we didn't make it, but my decision won't rely on that.

"I hope we can continue our good form in the Premiership and grab a Uefa Cup place that way."
