Varney scored nine goals for Sheffield Wednesday last season
Blackpool have signed Derby striker Luke Varney on a season-long loan deal.
The 27-year-old, who spent much of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, could make his debut against Fulham in Saturday's Premier League game.
Blackpool have the option of signing Varney, who has also played for Crewe and Charlton, on a permanent deal.
Tangerines boss Ian Holloway said: "He is a great lad, he has got some pace and I think he'll play really well in a 4-3-3 formation."
Varney only made 10 appearances for Derby in two years, including a loan spell, but Holloway is confident he can bring the best out of him.
"He is a fantastic lad off the field - I think he will just slot straight in to our system and hopefully I can get him going again," he said.
Varney told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'd heard whispers a few weeks back but didn't know if it was anything concrete.
"Then I heard on Wednesday night there might be a possibility of it and I pushed to make sure it happened.
"For me to get the opportunity of a club like Blackpool it's one I needed to grasp and it's something I'm thoroughly looking forward to.
"I'm just looking forward to all of the games and hopefully repaying some of the faith shown in me by the gaffer."
Blackpool will be hosting their first ever Premier League game when Fulham visit Bloomfield Road, after finally completing building work on the new East Stand.
The home game with Wigan was switched to the DW Stadium, with Blackpool winning 4-0, but they were brought back down to earth with a 6-0 drubbing at Arsenal last weekend.
Despite that defeat, Holloway has pledged to stick with his attacking principles against Mark Hughes' side.
