Martin Devaney has been given permission to talk to Blackpool about a possible move to Bloomfield Road.
The Seasiders have made a 150,000 offer for the 28-year-old midfielder, which triggers a release clause in his contract at Oakwell.
Barnsley boss Simon Davey told the South Yorkshire club's website: "This clause is standard in contracts.
"It does not mean have to sell Martin, only that he can speak with a club who offer that amount."
Devaney, a former Cheltenham and Watford player, moved to Oakwell in August 2005.
Blackpool have confirmed an offer was made on 4 June.
