Blackpool have made their first signing of the summer by snapping up defender Marlon Broomes on a free transfer.

Broomes, 30, has agreed an initial one-year deal at Bloomfield Road and will officially join on 1 July after being released by Stoke City.

"I'm delighted to sign the contract," Broomes told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I'm a versatile player and can play in various positions and am comfortable on the ball. Hopefully I can be a good addition to the squad."

Broomes, who has also played for Blackburn and Preston, has failed to make a first-team appearance for more than two years because of injury.

But he says it was never a concern that it might have an impact on the move.

I never really got an opportunity after that because he brought his own players in

"The injuries I had were two years ago, so all this season I've been fit and playing reserve games," he said.

"I know Simon Grayson [Blackpool manager] has watched me several times, so they've seen that I've been performing well."

And he admitted it was frustrating not to be involved in Stoke's run to the Premier League.

"My first season I did well," he added. "I played over 40 games, but then the manager left and after Tony Pulis came in I was out for a whole year with the injury.

"I never really got an opportunity after that because he brought his own players in. But that's football. You have your ups and downs and I'm delighted to be a Blackpool player now."
