Jones ready for reserves return

Blackburn defender Phil Jones has said he expects to return to go back to the reserves despite an impressive first-team debut against Nottingham Forest.

The 17-year-old won the man-of-the-match award in Tuesday's Carling Cup 1-0 victory at the City Ground.

He told BBC Lancashire: "I don't think the gaffer will push me too much.

"I just need to keep playing well in the reserves and when a chance like this comes along hopefully take it. I need to keep my feet on the ground."

"I've still got a long way to go and hopefully I can keep progressing and push my way into the first-team on a regular basis."

Jones only found out shortly before the game that he was in the starting line-up.

"It's something I always dreamed of as a kid so it was nice to get my debut and put in a good performance," he said.

"It's a massive boost for young players coming through to know that Sam Allardyce will give them a chance to prove their quality."
