Bentley feels he has achieved all he can with Blackburn

England midfielder David Bentley has told Blackburn he wants to leave Ewood Park for a new challenge.

"The situation is I want to move on. I want to be playing Champions League football, or in Europe.

"I've been here for three years and I love the club and I love playing for them but I feel I've done everything I can," the 23-year-old explained.

Bentley, who began his career at Arsenal, has been linked with possible moves to Liverpool or Manchester City.

City are now managed by former Rovers boss Mark Hughes, who has been promised substantial transfer funds by owner Thaksin Shinawatra with the aim of turning them into one of the Premier League's elite clubs.

Hughes's ambitions would certainly match those of Bentley, but Rovers would expect a sizeable fee for a player who is contracted to them until 2011.

"I owe so much to them and I hope I've repaid them with the way I've played," he said.

"But I need to be pushing and moving on somewhere else, so we'll see what the summer can bring - and in this transfer window, hopefully something can be sorted out."

Bentley, who joined Rovers in January 2006, revealed that he informed the club of his intention to seek a move before Hughes left earlier this month.

"I discussed things with the manager then and the chairman, and I made it clear I wanted to move on. Their situation has changed, but mine hasn't," he added.
