Everton, Manchester City, Wigan and Bolton have all expressed an interest in signing Matt Jansen after the striker was released by Blackburn. However, none of the clubs is thought to be keen on signing the player permanently, instead preferring a deal until the end of the season.
Jansen, 28, has started only 13 Premiership matches since his recovery from a 2002 motorcycle accident.
He moved to Rovers from Crystal Palace for 4.1m in January 1999.
Chairman John Williams said: "Given Matt's contribution over the years we feel we should not stand in his way.
"He needs a new challenge and on behalf of everyone connected with the club we wish him well."
He was tipped to win England honours until a road accident left him in a coma for four days.
He recently revealed his desire to leave Ewood Park, saying: "This is the hardest - and yet probably the most sensible - decision I have ever made.
"I am not a troublemaker and I do not kick up a stink if I am not in the team but enough is enough."
Jansen has since been linked with a move to Championship club Preston.
