Ferguson was incensed by D'Urso's penalty decision |
Referee Andy D'Urso has been banned by the Premier League for his poor display in Blackburn's 3-2 loss at Southampton. The FA charged D'Urso after he failed to send off Blackburn's Barry Ferguson, despite giving him two cautions.
But the Premier League suspended the official before the FA had decided whether he had "less than proficiently applied the laws of the game".
It is not thought that D'Urso's top-flight career is in long-term danger, and he may just face a one month ban.
But he will not now take charge of Manchester United's home game against Everton on Monday.
Ferguson will miss a match for the two yellow cards.
And under new FA rules, he will automatically sit out his side's next game against Arsenal on Wednesday.
