Lorenzo Amoruso signed for Rangers for 4.5m in 1997 |
Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso is putting a 1.5m bid from Blackburn Rovers to the back of his mind until after Saturday's Scottish Cup final. There are strong suggestions that the deal will eventually go through, although there are other interested clubs, along with the capture of fellow defender Frank de Boer from Barcelona.
But, with Rangers looking to conclude a domestic whitewash if they defeat Dundee, Amoruso told the Daily Record: "This is not the time to be talking about transfers to Blackburn or anywhere else.
"To be honest, I'm not even giving Blackburn a second thought. I'm only thinking about Rangers and winning the Treble.
"I have had this Blackburn thing hanging over me for a while now, but I think the manager and the fans have seen my commitment to them is as strong as ever."
The Italian, who has a year on his contract remaining, had offered to take a 20% pay cut on a new deal.
Frank told Barcelona that he is available for teams who come in for him and there are strong rumours about Blackburn |
But Rangers' debts are mounting and therefore the prospect of money in the bank plus cash off the wage bill is likely to prove too tempting. Arthur Numan, Claudio Caniggia, Jerome Bonnissel, Dan Eggen and Bert Konterman could all also be leaving the club.
But striker Michael Mols could stay on for another year following an impressive burst of scoring.
Amoruso has a year left on his contract, but Rangers could be tempted to part with him in the summer to avoid losing him for nothing when his contract ends.
Rovers are the only club to have made a concrete offer, but agent Andrea D'Amico insists his client is keeping his options open.
"I haven't talked to Graeme Souness, but we have some more options, so we will need 10 more days," D'Amico said.
"We are considering some other options from the Premiership and from Italy and Spain.
"Rangers have not indicated whether they will listen to offers yet, but I will speak to them tomorrow (Friday)."
Rovers chief executive John Williams told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We've made an offer and we're hoping it will be accepted.
"Of course we're optimistic, but at this stage we haven't been given permission to speak to him."
Rovers manager Souness has had at least two approaches for Amoruso turned down by Rangers.
Zurab Khizanishvili has been voted young player of the year |
Rangers have already secured the services of Dundee's Georgian international, Zurab Khizanishvili, as a replacement. Amoruso's team-mate, Ronald de Boer, who will be up against Khizanishvili in Saturday's Scottish Cup final, said: "It would be a big loss, because Lorenzo is a very good defender with experience and we would miss that.
"But the club has to carry on and we will find another player to fill his place."
Speaking about Khizanishvili, the Dutchman added: "I haven't seen all of Dundee's games, but he has had a great season.
"He is a young lad, so he is a great prospect and a guy who wants to learn, so I think he would be a great asset."
De Boer has spoken to his brother about a possible move to Blackburn.
"He told Barcelona that he is available for the teams who come in for him and if he thinks the offer is fine and the club thinks it is fine then he will go," said Ronald
. "There are strong rumours about Blackburn."
