Dunford has plenty of experience running football clubs

Birmingham chief executive Michael Dunford has resigned from his post.

Dunford was brought to St Andrews by new owner Carson Yeung following the Hong Kong businessman's successful takeover of the club last October.

However, the club did not disclose why Dunford, who has previously worked for Derby County, Everton and Plymouth Argyle, has departed.

"We wish him well for the future and thank him for the time spent at the football club," read a club statement.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish was surprised to learn that Dunford had left the club after only six months.

"I know as much as you know, that Michael has left the club. That's all I know," said the Scot.

"He has not been in the job that long and, if you bring a chief executive and he goes that early, yes, it is a little bit unusual.

"It's not my business. I'm more concerned with the Villa game at the weekend. I worked closely with him but there are good lines of communication with everyone at this club."

Dunford spent 10 years as chief executive at Everton before joining Plymouth in January 2005.
