Birmingham angry at Phillips bid

Kevin Phillips
Phillips has scored 13 goals for Birmingham this season

Birmingham City have asked the Football Association to complain on their behalf to Fifa about the behaviour of Australian club Perth Glory.

They are angry that the A-League side have been quoted as saying they plan to meet striker Kevin Phillips to discuss a move to Australia.

A Blues statement said there has been no official approach for Phillips and they have no plans to sell him.

The 35-year-old has one year left on his St Andrew's contract.

Phillips is Birmingham's top scorer with 13 goals so far this season but has been out recently with a hamstring injury.

"He's under contract but we have made some inquiries about him and he's a good player," Perth coach David Mitchell told his club's website. "If we get him, he'd be a great asset."

Mitchell is due to travel to England to watch Birmingham's game with Championship promotion rivals Wolves at St Andrew's next month.

Birmingham say they will now be asking Fifa to investigate whether Perth have broken the rules on approaching players who are under contract to another club and inducing them to break their contracts.
