Birmingham boss Alex McLeish believes the club's fans can play a major part in their Premier League survival bid.

The former Scotland boss was thrilled at the backing his side received from 5,000 Blues supporters during Saturday's defeat at Wigan.

"They were right behind us at the JJB Stadium and I want to thank all those who travelled," said McLeish.

"The atmosphere at home is always great too and I have no doubt it will be again when Everton arrive on Saturday."

Recent home wins against Tottenham and Manchester City have helped Blues open up a four point cushion over Bolton and the Premier League relegation zone.

The manager feels a passionate backing can give his side the edge in the remaining home games against Everton, Liverpool and Blackburn.

"I know the players get a lift and an energy when the supporters are right behind them and are singing as loud as they can," McLeish added.

"I'm sure St Andrews is going to be a very noisy place come Saturday afternoon."
