Birmingham have signed Bolton's Radhi Jaidi in a deal worth up to �2m after the Tunisian centre-back received Home Office approval on a work permit. The 30-year-old joins the Championship club on a three-year contract.
Jaidi, who links up with former Wanderers colleague Bruno N'Gotty, appeared in the World Cup and scored in the 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia.
Manager Steve Bruce has decided not to include Jaidi in the first game of the season after his World Cup exertions.
And Bruce cannot guarantee he will select the new recruit for the second match of the season at Sunderland four days later.
"It would be wrong for me to include Jaidi even though he has got his work permit through because yesterday was his first day of training since playing in the World Cup," Bruce said.
"He could possibly be involved against Sunderland but we will look at him physically.
"Of course we would like him on Wednesday but the season lasts for 10 months, 46 games, so the last thing I want to be doing is bring him in when he's not ready.
Jaidi was a regular for Bolton last season after joining the club from Tunisian side Esperance in 2004.
He scored eight goals in his 51 appearances for the Reebok Stadium outfit and has 88 international caps.
