Gold slams claims by Cunningham
David Gold
Chairman Gold is angry at Cunningham's parting comments
Birmingham chairman David Gold has hit back at Kenny Cunningham after the former captain claimed the Blues chief may walk away after their relegation.

Cunningham, who is being released, slammed Blues' owners and management.

But Gold said: "Kenny Cunningham makes remarks about us (David and Ralph Gold and co-owner David Sullivan) walking away from Birmingham at the same time.

"That simply isn't going to happen. My share is separate from David's. If he sells up the Golds will remain."

Gold insisted: "We are not joined at the hip and we are certainly not husband and wife!"

Gold was particularly upset at claims from the former Republic of Ireland skipper questioning the current owners' commitment to the club.

"I'm angry about a lot of what he said, particularly that the owners have no passion and the club has no soul. That's rubbish," said Gold.

"I wonder if he would have said that if we had stayed up and he had got a new deal."
