Appiah scored his first goal of the season in the recent win over Lecce |
Birmingham manager Steve Bruce wants to sign 5m-rated Juventus midfielder Stephen Appiah in the summer. The Ghana international, 24, has failed to command a regular starting place with the Turin giants and has attracted interest from a host of clubs.
"There are a few players we are looking at and Appiah is on the list.
"We've been scouring the market for months and months and he's one we are monitoring and we'll see what the situation is with him," Bruce said.
However Appiah has told BBC Sport that he is committed to Juventus.
"I have three more years left on my contract with Juventus and I am determined to honour them," he said.
"I feel that I am forcing my way back into the team having played and scored against Lecce last weekend and then getting another game against Inter Milan on Wednesday."
Appiah has found his path blocked at Juve by Mauro Camoranesi and Emerson.
Bruce admitted: "If we can add two to four players this summer then we'll be stronger again. I am looking at quality rather than quantity.
"We've got the nucleus of a decent squad but the more quality you've got, the better you are going to be - and quality costs you money."
Newcastle, Everton, Portsmouth, Fiorentina and Bologna have also shown interest in Appiah, who has three years left of his current contract, although the player is understood to be keen to have a spell in England.
