Birmingham sign Anderton
Darren Anderton
Anderton has been hampered by injuries over his career
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has signed former Tottenham and England midfielder Darren Anderton in a one-year deal.

The 32-year-old was released by Spurs at the end of last season after 12 years at White Hart Lane.

Anderton becomes the Blues' sixth signing of the summer after Emile Heskey, Muzzy Izzet, Julian Gray, Jesper Gronkjaer and Mario Melchiot.

He came to St Andrews in the summer and impressed Bruce after a spell training during the pre-season.

"I am prepared to take a gamble with Darren and I think it is a gamble worth taking," Bruce said last week.

Anderton made his name at Tottenham and earned 30 caps for England, scoring seven international goals.
