Barnsley have signed Scotland international defender Jay McEveley on a free transfer following his release by Derby County in May.
The 25-year-old former Blackburn Rovers player has signed a two-year contract at Oakwell.
"I am very happy to have brought Jay to the club," Barnsley manager Mark Robins told the club's website.
"When I found found out that he was interested in coming to speak with us I wasted no time in getting him here."
Liverpool-born McEveley started his career at Ewood Park, making 27 appearances, during which time he had loan spells with Burnley, Gillingham and Ipswich Town.
He was then signed by Billy Davies for Derby for £600,000 in January 2007.
He has since played 101 games for the Rams in three and a half seasons, during which time he has spent two more spells out on loan at Preston and Charlton.
