Barnsley are planning a move for Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp in the January transfer window, BBC Radio Sheffield understands.

The Reds are thought to have already made an approach for the 23-year-old who is also wanted by Doncaster Rovers where he is currently on loan.

Barnsley manager Mark Robins said: "We are always interested in good players and Billy falls into that category."

Sharp has scored seven goals in his last seven games for Doncaster.

Even though the striker agreed a deal with Rovers until the end of the season, he would be able to join them or any other club on a permanent basis next month.
