Whaley goes straight into the squad for the Sheffield United clash
Barnsley have signed Preston North End winger Simon Whaley on a one-month emergency loan.
The 23-year-old has struggled to get into the first team at Deepdale, but goes straight into the Reds squad to face Sheffield United.
Former Bury player Whaley said: "To come here for a month is brilliant and I am really looking forward to it. I had no hesitation in joining."
Whaley has only made 10 appearances for the Preston this season.
He feels joining the Reds could kick-start his career: "I am delighted that [Tykes boss] Simon Davey has given me this opportunity.
"I know all of the coaching staff from my time at Bury so that side of it should be familiar. It is always nice to go somewhere where you already know people.
"I have not been in the Preston team for the last few weeks and that has been really hard for me. All I want to do is play football and I am ready for Saturday, if the gaffer picks me."
