Wales Under-21 keeper Kyle Letheren has signed a one-year contract at Barnsley, with the option to extend his stay. The Tykes have received international clearance from the Football Association of Wales and Letheren is available for the season-opener with Cardiff.
The ex-Swansea and Newport man, the son of former Leeds and Swans keeper Glan, has impressed on trial this summer.
"Kyle has a lot of potential and at 19 is the right age for us," Barnsley boss Andy Ritchie told the club website.
"I don't think he is quite ready to be our back-up keeper but we'll give him a year to see if he develops as we hope."
