Colgan was Barnsley's hero when they won the play-off final |
Barnsley goalkeeper Nick Colgan has signed a new contract at Oakwell, keeping him at the club until 2008. Colgan, 32, was named the Tykes' player of the year last season as Barnsley won promotion back to the Championship.
Meanwhile, the club have announced that Chris Shuker was offered a new contract but failed to respond to a set deadline and the deal was then withdrawn.
The winger then left the club under a cloud, insisting that he was keen to remain at Barnsley.
A club statement read: "If Chris desperately wanted to stay, why did he not accept the club's offer prior to going away on holiday?
"His agent told the chairman that he had gone away to consider his future plans, which hardly fits with the inference that he was committed to the club."
Shuker fuelled the disagreement by telling the Star newspaper that he did not want to leave the club.
He said: "The manager wanted me back, the lads as well, it seems the chairman is running the club, picking the players."
"Money wasn't the issue, I turned down an extra 500 from another club because I wanted to stay."
